MY SUMMER EXPEDITION

ELEMENTARY STUDENTS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

Week 1 recap

The MY Summer Expedition program kicked off on ​Monday, June 10 with a fun packed trip to Franklin Park ​Conservatory where students learned about the life ​cycle and value of butterflies and spent time exploring ​the Children’s Garden.

Students visited the Ohio Caverns and learned about ​crystal growth and glaciated plains in Ohio. They ​experienced mining their own gemstones and played a ​matching gemstone game on the ride home!

QUEST STORE!

Students earned Quest Dollars throughout the week ​based on respectful behavior. Our focus this summer is ​RESPECTING our leaders, other students, ourselves, ​buildings and supplies. At the end of the week, ​students visited our Quest Store and bought prizes with ​their Quest Dollars.

Students were provided turkey sandwiches with carrot ​juice for lunch and fruits with juice for snacks.

Visit to The Columbus Zoo!

Students got to:

• Walk under the seals and watch them swim
  
• Pet sting rays
  
• Learn about habitats and animals of North America
  
• See Giraffes
  
• Explore animals whose habitats are being taken up by cities
  

Visit to The Ohio State University's Orton Geological Museum!

Students got to:

• See the timeline of prehistoric eras and life that existed in ​Ohio!
  
• See fossils are large prehistoric animals like: the giant relative ​of the armadillo, 14ft predatory fish, dinosaurs, and the giant ​ground sloth
  
• Observe florescent rocks and pieces of shooting stars ​(meteorites)
  
• Learn about the minerals that exist around the world
  
• Take home their own geological fossil/rock when we left
  
• Watched Ice Age to wrap up environment camp and connect ​to prehistoric history
