MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

Week 3 recap

Week 3 was our first of two weeks of Art/Leadership ​Camp! We stayed at our Youth Center most of the day.

Art Camp

We learned about Alexander Calder, the father of kinetic ​art. Students made fused glass pieces and Fimo Beads ​to incorporate into mobiles.

Students learned about the characteristics of good ​leaders: good character, humility and considering the ​needs of others. They also received a visit from Officer ​James from Columbus Public Police to talk about how to ​use your strengths for the community.

RECREATION/SPORTS AT BIG RUN ATHLETIC ​COMPLEX W/ MR CHASE


Students learned about teamwork and putting the team ​before yourself! They also learned about the importance ​of discipline and dedication. Exercises consisted of:


  • 5 minutes - warm up, stretch (with discussion about ​why we stretch)
  • 45 minutes - various games (river/bank, NSC, silent ​ball, knock out)
  • 5-10 minutes - cool down/free play


QUEST STORE!

Students earned Quest Dollars throughout ​the week based on respectful behavior. ​Our focus this summer is RESPECTING our ​leaders, other students, ourselves, ​buildings and supplies. At the end of the ​week, students visited our Quest Store ​and bought prizes with their Quest ​Dollars.

Students were provided z-bars, chobani ​smoothies and apple juice for breakfast ​and chicken wraps or chicken/cheese ​burgers with fruit cups for lunch.
